Identify: Relationships between humans and their environments: Protocols around the world that acknowledge and respect the land
Determine: Summative | Mock Trial
Plan: Students will be presented with a logging proposal and research groups within the community that would be affected by the proposal. The unit will end with students participating in a mock trail where they voice the opinions of their groups to redefine the proposal and come to a decision on whether it passes or fails.
I chose the Curriculum Planning activity to fit into the category of design unit and lesson plans that combine curricular competencies and content in a creative, thoughtful, and engaging way. My group had so much fun creating this activity and everyone contributed equally to create something that we are excited about and could see teaching in the classroom! We were inspired by the events happening on Pacheedaht territory at Fairy Creek. I think the more relevant and close to home concepts are the more interesting, fun and engaging a unit or lesson will be.
