I like the idea of portfolio as an assessment strategy that can help to enhance student learning. The clear goals and objectives make it easy to pick the work that outlines how you achieved those goals. For little ones I like the idea of a Friday Folder where every Friday students get to pick a piece of work that they are really proud of and place it into a folder. This work can be in progress or completed but it is a way for students to have a say in what they want us as teachers to notice. I will definitely be looking into portfolio more, especially as I get more comfortable with inquiry!
