In this play the main character gets pulled back in time to three different time periods in an attempt to learn empathy. Each time period will represent a different ancient civilization from the Socials curriculum. Through learning about ancient ways of knowing and being the main character will go through an emotional transformation on his path to becoming empathetic.

I loved Allison Balabuch’s presentation about how she incorporates theatre with her middle school students. I chose to include my groups idea for a play for the diverse learners & classrooms objective. I have always been big on arts-integration specifically visual arts and have often shied away from performing arts due to not knowing where or how to implement it. Allison inspired me to incorporate it in my own classroom (perhaps on a smaller scale at first!). My favourite part was how she took everyone’s theatre ideas and created one large concept map where she then pulled out similar ideas, concepts and themes to create one unified idea. I think arts integration is a way to incorporate whole body learning and can help support all types of learners needs within a classroom.
